The only significant difference between SP and SR is cup thickness (hardness). SR have thicker cups in order to handle the higher pressures of rifle rounds. The thicker and therefore harder cups may be more difficult to ignite for some guns especially ones that have been modified with lighter hammer and striker springs. Most modern guns will not have any issues with SR primers.
