Joe in Missouri ,\”I am grateful that pistol primers did not drive the bullet far enough to chamber another round.\” Don\’t depend on that statement, I had an undetected squib in a P229. The result was pretty loud and I Sig said it cracked the frame. I will never know for certain but the best opinions I have received was no powder as the cause. The round in question was loaded on a 550 using poly coated .40 bullets. Best guess is I left the 550 for some reason and lost track of the process. From that day forward when I leave the machine I either empty it prior to leaving or before I re start the process.
I hope this helps keep someone else from making the same mistake I made.Thanks for the update.

For now being on SSI all reloading has come to a halt for the past 6 months.@Joe, glad all is well. Unfortunately, both I and a friend have both found ourselves in that situation. Based on my experience and your info, @Kirk is right…primer alone, no powder. Had that happen to one of my 10mm\’s in competition.
Good luck and pay attention. Have my reloaders setup now so I can see in the case as I seat a bullet. Also spent the money on some LED lighting for inside the turret area. WELL worth it!

Same happened to me but it was the OAL that got me. The round was loaded to long and got stuck in the lands and when I cleared the chamber it pulled the bullet. I thought the same as you but I had unburned powder inside my slide. Dead trigger no primer pop.
I tell ya…. If you’ve ever tried reloading you’re eventually going to load a bullet or shotshell without powder. I’ve done both. I’m concerned about rapid fire and never do that with reloads, ever. I’m moving up to a Lee Turret press soon and will make sure I have some kind of LED light to see inside the case before seating a bullet. Right now I single stage my reloading and I always expand the case and drop a charge onto the 50 bullet flat rack and view the entire rack to make sure all loads look about the same in each one. I caught an empty that way once and a double load in a 38 Spcl one time too ! Going to find a way to verify when I get the Turret set up
Interesting. I have a Dillon 650 and it has an over/under powder charge alarm. It can typically be off by .1 or .2gr but it\’s pretty close. That being said, I also have done this no powder thing. Obviously, I ignored the alarm. I can fix that though. When using progressive I always watch as the turret turns. When I work up new loads, it\’s always on a single stage hand measured. I can say OAL gets me sometimes with these new fangled bullets wanting to \”plunk test\” in every barrel. What? If SAAMI says 9mm is 1.169 shouldn\’t any barrel take that OAL? BTW, SAAMI says min OAL is 1.095 but Hornady for XTP says 1.060. Load manuals don\’t always make sense.
