What\’s everyone getting in terms of groups? I\’m using Accurate 2495 for ladder testing with 6-shot groups and I\’m noticing a trend where the first 3 will group near to or less than 1\” at 100yds and then the next three will open up the group to about 3\”. I\’ve checked my shooting form and I don\’t think it\’s me, which leaves either my barrel (Mk12 profile Ballistic Advantage) or my optic.
I figured I\’d ask for more info before I start wasting more ammo and powder trying to diagnose the issue.
Hi – I am seeing sub-moa 5 shot groups at 100 yards with the 75BTHP, using CFE223. That was with 24.8 grns of powder. I My lab radar chrono is showing FPS around 2700. I am going to load up a few more and trend it up to 2800 fps to see where the nodes are. My upper is a 20 inch White Oak Armaments – National Match. 1-7 twist. I shot prone with a sling for all my load dev. This way, I can get my zero\’s for XTC prone at the same time. I do have some Accurate 2495 and will give that a try next week. How may grains of powder where you using in your ladder test?
Thanks for the response! I was shooting from my range\’s Lead Sled and I double checked that my optic was torqued correctly and that I wasn\’t jerking the trigger. I was using Norma .223 brass trimmed to 1.750\”, bullets seated to 2.260\” (1.905\” using a bullet comparator), and CCI small rifle magnum primers (all I can get locally) so my ladder started below minimum. I started with 6-shot groups at 21.9gr and went up in .3 increments until I saw pressure signs at 24.2gr.
The best 3-shot clusters were 21.9gr at 0.632\” edge to edge at 100yds, 22.5gr at 0.685\”, and 23.9gr at 1.049\”. For full 6-shot groups only the best, 23.9gr at 2.171\” managed to go below 3\”.
At this point I\’m not sure if it\’s the bullet not liking the powder or if my barrel (BA MK12 1/7 twist) just prefers lighter bullets. I\’m trying to stick with extruded powders since the temperature in southern WI varies so wildly.
I had great results with Shooters World Precision Rifle powder. Loaded in the 556 pressure range. Shot 9 shot groups, couldn\’t get 10th round in my 10 round magazine, all groups could be covered with a nickel. Speed averaged just over 2800. I didn\’t have much luck with TAC either. CFE223 did OK but not as good as Precision . I really like the powder, works great in 308 165 and 168 grain bullets too.
Rifle is a 1:8 AR-15 with 18\” barrel and rifle length gas system. Springco blue spring and JP bolt are the only modifications. 3x microprism optic was used for all shooting. Shots were from a bench, but without a formal benchrest or sandbags of any sort. I had a carpet-covered wood block on the front and nothing on the back.
Powder: CFE-223 @ 25.2 grains
OAL: 2.255\”
Primers: Win #41
Brass: LC and RP were both used.Without a real rest or even sand bags (as noted above), groups were 1.5\” at 100 yards. That\’s with a variable wind of 5-10 mph from L to R. I have no doubt less than 1\” was possible.
Thanks for the replies, all! I can\’t find any Shooters World powder locally so it looks like CFE 223 will be my next attempt. I\’m trying Ramshot X-Terminator as well just for kicks.
I was running them in a 24 inch Anderson fluted bull 1:8 barrel. You need a longer barrel to get the best out of the Precision Rifle powder. I had good results with CFE223 in my shorter barrels. Pretty much all groups were MOA or better. They ran good in a 20 inch 223 Wylde also.

Just starting load development for the .224 75gr 3gh…
I have shot 2 velocity tests that grouped all shots with in 1.5moa…
20 rounds total… 10 rounds each test… each round with a different powder charge..
for me getting a 1.5moa group on a velocity test is awsome
My velocity tests usually look like they were put on paper by a shotgun…I consider myself to be a mediocre to fair shot…
rifle is a Savage Axis with a Shaw 26\” magnum barrel 1:8 twist 223 Wylde chamber …(cheap)….
it wears a Leupold® side focus VX®-Freedom® 6-18x40mm scope…Velocities are faster then expected from 2882 fps – 3053 fps at the muzzle…
Has anyone tested the terminal performance (expansion and retained weight) of these bullets?
There is a picture out of a pig shot by one, went thru both shoulders and exit wound was over 2 inches wide. Message Jake at sales@rmrbullets.com and have him send you a picture. I am running them @ 2780 through a 20\” 223 wylde barrel could get them a little faster but 2780 was my best node. They are .5 moa at 100 yards.

10 shots at 100 yards with a 7/8in group (all touching) semi vertical string could be the shooter. Overall very impressed! IMR 4895 is not the ideal powder for this caliber or bullet weight combo, however it’s the powder I have on hand and this combo worked great!!!
I will definitely be ordering more of these bullets.
