Description

This is a copper plated version of the Idaho Silver 9mm 124 JHP *Nuke*  Use load data for a 124 grain bullet.

Unfortunately, these aren’t actually silver bullets and they aren’t all copper either.  These jackets are made with a zinc and a thin copper plating (very high % of zinc and low % of copper). They look absolutely beautiful and they shoot really really well. We made these out of the exact same material that US pennies are made of.  That said, the copper plating isn’t thick enough to completely eliminate that additional fouling from the zinc, but it does come with some advantages over the plain zinc.  First, they resist corrosion and oxidation better than zinc does.  Second, these leave a grease ring that is VERY easily seen as the plating is pure copper and leaves a very dark grease ring in paper for our competition shooters.

We also made these the same weight as our copper jacketed bullets.  If you are wanting to switch to a more economical bullet but want to keep everything else the same these are a great choice.

So, why zinc?  Well, it’s much cheaper than copper and I’m so sick of inflation that I just felt that if there was a way I could make the price go DOWN instead of up, then I had done my duty to mankind.  Anyway, if you buy these please come back and leave a review after you’ve received and tested them.  This could be a real game changer.

Oh, and if you have a question about barrel wear, we shot about 7000 of these through a single firearm and saw no noticeable wear.  Zinc is much softer than copper and it is supposed to be slicker as well.  If you buy enough of these to wear out your barrel, I would love to know how many it took to wear it out.

These will foul a more than copper.  We have found that Butch’s Bore Shine or Montana Xtreme Copper Killer easily eats it out of a barrel.  Just plug one end of the barrel and fill it with the solvent and let it sit a couple hours.  Dump it out and pull a bore snake through it and like 99% of it is gone.  But honestly, I just shoot about a mag or two of the copper jacketed bullets after shooting hundreds of these and it cleans the barrel out about 90%.

I received my order on Friday. Saturday I loaded 100 with 3.7 grains of AA#2 to an OAL of 1.10 the same as I do with round nose 124 grain RMR that has been my steady load. I shot a 6 stage level one USPSA match today Sunday. Didn’t bother to check the load prior to the match either. Would not have known the difference. No problems at all. Performance was the same as any match for me that I shot using my regular 124 grain RMR. I used my Sig X5 320 Legion as it takes about any length load unlike my more finicky guns which I will admit I dropped a few into the barrel of the backup gun just in case. As far as any fouling I see none. I have tried the Idaho Silvers and didn’t have a problem getting the barrels cleaned either.
