Description

We have been wanting to make a really good self defense HP for a while now.  In the past our biggest issue with the MPR (Multi Purpose Round) was that it required 1150-1200 fps to reliably expand.  This was doable through full size firearms, but left the short barrel conceal carry guns without much hope of success.  So, we went full out and redesigned our bullet.  We pre-cut the lead core so that it will easily open upon impact.  Our NUKE is unique in that we gave it three internal petals and six external jacket cuts.  The result in ballistics gel is pretty impressive.  At 1100 FPS we’re getting about 14″ of penetration with a diameter of about .630″ in total expansion.  At 1000 fps we are getting 16-17″ of penetration with a diameter of about .590″ in total expansion.  Our three petal design leaves the expanded bullet with a very distinct design that kind of resembles the international symbol for radiation.  We’ve been testing it for a while now and we’re pretty confident that it is THE bullet for short or long barreled self defense loads.  Whether you’re shooting for practice, competition, or self-defense, make sure you’re always hitting with a NUKE!

41 reviews for 9mm 124 Gr. RMR JHP (MPR NUKE)

  1. Nathan Revard (verified owner)

Looks great! Can’t wait to load up and deploy the new NUKE from my springfield EMP before the putinator has a chance to detonate either one 😉
Thank you guys for innovatin’ and still managing to offer them at such a great value (even when compared to run of the mill plated round nosers available out there today)! Will report back after load development and clinical trials.

  2. foley.joel (verified owner)

Bought 1k to see how they shoot and have been blown away. They load easily and I’ve already burned 300 of them through a CZ 75 and a 9mm AR. Stable flight through a suppressor and perfectly round holes at 10, 25, 50m

  3. K. Woodward (verified owner)

Tested these against water filled milk jugs at 5yds. Ended up in the 3rd jug. Jacket stayed intact and mushroomed beautifully from a sub 4″ 9mm barrel. Opened up to 0.68″ and retained 100% of weight (123.7 gr)
Also had good accuracy. It would appear to be an excellent self defense projectile. Also think they would be a great 9mm deer round at appropriate distances. Very impressed. I’m going to order another 1,000.

  4. Paul O (verified owner)

Loaded these for a Glock 26 Gen 5. I had to go to 1.07 OAL to properly pass the plunk test. Really impressed with the velocity and expansion with 4.6 grains of W231. Average 1069 fps, standard deviation 11 fps. However accuracy left something to be desired. With irons at 25 yards supported I expect less than 4 inch 10 shot groups but these were closer to 7. Probably just my gun. RMR is great, highly recommend any of their products.

  5. Ian (verified owner)

Good accuracy out of my S&W Shield. They look similar to the old ones but with a rounder nose and the hollow point enlarged. A well made hollow point at an affordable price, great work.

  6. Hoss (verified owner)

Just took 20 of these to the range loaded with 3.8g 231 C.O.L 1.12″ to test fire. Flawless. Had the first few seated at 1.06 and that was too deep. G19 would not go into battery and case jammed. 1.10″- 1.12″ seems to be the sweet spot for my G19 at least. Your mileage may vary. Accurate, affordable and available… A+++

  7. Terry (verified owner)

Have always run RMR 115 RN. Now on my second 2,000 order of these 124 RN HP. They run perfectly in my C.Z. tactical sport 5.25″and Dan Wesson 4″.
OAL @ 1.118 with 4.4 Hodgdon “Tite-Group” powder. Great from 12 yd. to 33 yd. out doors. Did not need to change the dies in my Dillon “Square Deal”, as the are both R.N. and no deformation of the nose when seating. The 115 RN OAL is 1.128 so i can load up either the 115 or 124 with no change to my settings. Nice round hole on the boards. About 1120-1150 on the chronograph. Got them on the third day after ordering, and the price is always right. Run through about 8,000 a year, as the weather is great in AZ. Keep up the great innovations. Thanks.

  8. Gerald Rodebush

I had no problems with the old ones opening up or any problems reaching 1250 + fps using HS-6 , Win clean and shooters world Major pistol out of several different handguns and rifles anyway I have been loading these sense thay started making them I had to wait for 4 months to get the 1st 5000 but I received them in 4 or 5 days on the last order hopefully they still shoot 🔫 the same we will see

  9. J.H. (verified owner)

This was my first order from RMR, and I’ve been nothing but impressed! So far, I’ve tested three powders with this projectile, and have put about 350-400 rounds through my G19 and G34. I’ve been loading to 1.10″ OAL, with 3.8gr-4.6gr of N320, 4.0gr-4.7gr of Sport Pistol, and 5.2-5.6gr of Winchester Auto Comp. They were accurate with every load I tested.

I also fired some of loads at 200 yards with my PCC at a steel silhouette target, and was able to make solid, reliable hits. This projectile is accurate, and I’ll be buying more!

  10. Ethan (verified owner)

I ordered the first thousand of these and was shocked at how fast they arrived. Under 38 hours was amazing. They look great and I had no issues reloading them. I loaded a hundred OAL @ 1.10 with 3.9 – 4.3 Gr. Hodgdon Tite-Group to see how they would feed and fire in different firearms. My APX ate them up with no issues. They didn’t load reliably in the 1911 or the Canik until those had passed break-in with several hundred RN projectiles, but now they all consistently and reliably burn through full magazines of the Nukes. These projectiles shoot straight, and hold nice tight groupings at 10, 15 & 25 yards. My PCC’s eat these as well. We’ve never had a jam, and get tight groupings up to 100 yards from my PCC’s with 16″ barrels.

When we shot the Nukes into ballistic gel it create large wound channels and dumped energy quickly. We were getting 12″- 17″ of pentation, depending on length of barrel. I loaded the rest of the first shipment right away and have since ordered two more shipments. My friends that reload have also ordered several thousand of these.

  11. Moose (verified owner)

These are amazing, with 6 grains of longshot I was able to push these on average 1150fps through a 3 inch barrel, and 1475 through an AR9 with a 16 inch barrel.

The expansion is literally explosive, on a ballistics gel block with a thick winter coat over it I witnessed massive expansion AND the pedals sheared off through the block creating extensive wound channels.

In the same test with a Sierra bullets 147g hollow point, the HP clogged and did not expand. These “Nukes” out perform a large ammo manufacturer any day of the week.

I will likely never buy factory ammo again, these are just way too good.

  12. Earl G Morse (verified owner)

The RMR NUKE 124 grain is my go to favorite all purpose bullet. Great for Action Pistol, Carbines and EDC.
All my nines love this bullet. I use 3.8 g of TiteGroup with these and the performance is fantastic.

  13. Eric Johnson (verified owner)

Love, love, love these bullets! Bought 1K and these bullets out perform all other HP bullets I’ve shot. I will definitely buy more! They expand awsome through 3 layers of denim. I also love their 5.56 BTHP. Anything RMR makes has done as well or better than other bullets. Hope they start making these in .40. Thank you RMR for all your effort on making quality bullets!

  14. David W. (verified owner)

Good accuracy with all powders tried. I don’t shoot bullseye – I practice @ 15 yards for defensive shooting – all were in the center ring. Fired 5 shots each using Starline cases @ .748″, CCI SP primers, very light crimp. out of a Glock 19 for all loads (Pistol does have a match barrel with fully supported chamber & 22# spring). Shooters World Major Pistol 8.9gr / AVG FPS 1221 / ES 16 FPS / SD 6, Ramshot Silhouette 6.9gr / AVG FPS 1177 / ES 10 FPS / SD 5 FPS / Hodgdon CFE Pistol 5.9gr / AVG FPS 1229 / ES 4 / SD 2, Alliant BE86 6.1gr / AVG FPS 1209 / ES 20 / SD 8, Vhit N330 5.6gr / AVG FPS 1187 / ES 10 / SD 4, Hodgdon HS-6 6.9gr / AVG FPS 1197 / ES 10 / SD 5. I try to hit 1210-1220 FPS with slow powders and 1180-1190 with medium. These expand nicely and retain weight – no point in buying gold dots with the price of these – I can practice & have good defensive rounds with one bullet. I plan on this being my only 9mm bullet going forward.

  15. Terry P. (verified owner)

Awesome bullet. Best Hollow Point I’ve ever tested. Ran my trials with a CZ P 09 and a Springfield Hellcat. Awesome results. Give them a try you will be impressed!

  16. WALTER SCHOENNAUER (verified owner)

Very happy with the quality and performance of my first order of 3k matchwinners and 3k MPR nukes, both 9×124. I was impressed by their prices and customer service as well. RMR has made a customer for life. I will tell my friends where to shop for sure. Thank you for the excellent product

  17. steve hunt

These reviews look to be from real shooters . Nice to see.

  18. Lewis E Medlin

I loaded up a few of the new 124gr Nukes with the same powder charge and primers I’ve been using for the RMR’s old type 124gr HP bullets and it looks like we have a winner. I will be a couple months before I can do any real testing with this new bullet because I want to use up my stock of about 6,000 of the old Multi Purpose bullets.

  19. Terry K (verified owner)

What OAL are you seating to my Canik and Springfield pistols require 1.070 to just barely chamber. My Ruger will accept 1.100 OAL. I never knew that the lead on 9mm barrels would have so much difference. Be sure to check your barrel with the plunk test and remember the deeper you seat the bullet the more you need to reduce your starting loads!!

  20. Don (verified owner)

Outstanding product. The only 9mm projectile I load anymore. One ragged hole offhand at 12 yards out of a CZ Shadow 2 Orange.
    3.5 gr / VV N320 at 1.07″ OAL,
    recoil, what recoil?

  21. Tyler Adams

Shoot great pulled some out of the dirt and most of them expanded

  22. Rich (verified owner)

Not one issue with this bullet.

  23. Ralph John Niebel III

I have shot RMR products for years and years now. The products are the highest of quality and I have only ever had 1 issue. When I contacted RMR they immediately apologized and made it right, I am old at 56 and we call this good business. Then I told my buddies at the range where I shoot and they started buying these quality products. So the bullets are EFFIN great, but the people are the BEST. Buy American-made from RMR. Their in-house Jacketed Bullets are basically Match Bullets. RMR did not pay me to write this, they serviced their customer so someone else wouldn’t, so I and my friend buy RMR.

  24. Jeff (verified owner)

These rock! I’m shooting them from a Smith and Wesson m&p Shield Plus. Im grouping 2 1/2 – 3″ at 25 feet. Not a single malfunction after 500, with a minor load. You guys have nailed it. I have full confidence in carrying this. Now to be able to practice with my carry load out is awesome. It feels like 2019 all over! Thanks yall. Keep up the good work.

  25. Michael Dziecielski (verified owner)

They work great with my 357sig loads . 9.7gr of Longshot will push this beauties 1440fps out of 5.7” barrel . Best about this quality bullets is the price , If the price of the RMR NUKES was higher I would go with bullets like XTP’s etc – not because this brand name bullets are better but I can find load data way easier with popular bullets. This Nukes outperform other brands like XTP’s unfortunately not much load data for this bad boys. If you can substitute safely – this is the way to go ! Keep the price down and this is my best choice for right now .

  26. Russell Furford (verified owner)

The great rmr nuke! I’ve loaded and shot about 4000 of these so far from my 10.5” palmetto ar9 and from my ruger sr9c and they have been flawless! I’ve had no ftf or stovepipes, my guns just love them! Loaded over 4.1 of titegroup, 6.6 hs6, 5.8 be86 all at 1.125 oal. Chronograph results titegroup 1065fps, hs6 1165fps, be86 1210 fps and all expanded great! The slower rounds do expand slightly less but not enough to hardly notice unless you micrometer them. I think all us rmr loving reloaders should put out our own rmr load data book!

  27. SAMUEL BROCKMAN (verified owner)

MAN oh man does this bullet group tight out to 80yds. for me. I love them. Price is low, quality top of the line, and they weigh within a tenth or better of a grain of each other. Just can’t ask for a better bullet. I can’t tell you how well they spread on impact of flesh because all I shoot is steel and I hope I never am put in that circumstance but I will protect my family at all cost. More positive comment I hope you make these (NUKES) for a long time.

  28. JJE

Settled on vv n 320 4.1 grains 1.07 oal. Shot great out of my 365 xl and Legion x5. Time to order another thousand! Very impressed with a bullet at this price point that shoots so well. Just need them in 230 gr 45!

  29. Dave P (verified owner)

We’ve loaded and shot several thousand of these bullets and couldn’t be happier. The accuracy is better than I’ve been able to get out of any other brand. Reloading using 3.8 Titegroup @ 1.09COL w/CCI500 primers.
I haven’t tested for expansion but highly recommend due to bullet consistency, ease of reloading, and accuracy.

  30. Brian Austin (verified owner)

My go to loading for my 4.5″ PDP carry gun. This round with CFE Pistol is the smoothest running ammo I have ever made. Unbelievable and the most impressive pricing for what you get. Loading tons of these!

  31. tcoleman13 (verified owner)

This is my 2nd order from RMR and I am happy with both orders. My 1st order was 115gr 9mm FMJ. RMR is now going to be my 1st choice when looking for projectiles. An American company that I am proud to support. Please keep up the amazing work and quality.

  32. James Pearce (verified owner)

Expanded to .724 inches! Loaded with 6.2 gr of VV N350 at 1.10 cos out of a Glock 17. Hot load so work up slowly. Went through 2 milk jugs full of water and stoped in the 3rd. Recovered 118gr in 2 pieces (the jacket separated from the core in the 3rd jug). Awesome!

  33. Meichel (verified owner)

Very similar results to James above me:
    .75″ expansion!
    6.5g AA#5 (published +P load)
    1.12 OAL
    P80 build w PSA Dagger slide/4.5″ barrel
    1154 fps (calculated)

Through 2 water jugs, landed in 3rd. Pretty impressive initial energy dump.

  34. vivalv59 (verified owner)

I shot several rounds, loaded at different lengths (1.08, 1.09, 1.10, 1.115, and 1.120, using four different pistols, the FN-509T, G19Gen5, G43, G48 MOS. I used AA#5 (6.2gr) and Silhouette (5.4gr) powders. The FN-509 cycled fine with all lengths. The G19 had a couple of issues with the 1.115/1.12. The G48 cycled with the 1.08/1.09, but hung up on the rest. The G43 only worked with the 1.08. The 1.08 appears to be a good length for all of these guns, and maybe going with 1.07, especially for the smaller Glocks. Overall accuracy didn’t appear to be an issue, nice bullets. More testing to do…

  35. Christopher Hirt (verified owner)

Loaded them over 4.2 grains of VV N320 for a power factor of 130 out of my 4.1” Staccato. Getting 2 to 2.5” groups at 25 yards, just resting on the bench. Prints to the same POI as my 147 Speer G2 ammo.

  36. Kyle D Leister (verified owner)

These are the best bullets I have ever used for loading .357 Sig and 9mm Luger.

  37. Nathan Dively (verified owner)

Excellent bullet. Very tight groups. Excellent performance. I need to load short to about 1.05 – 1.06 for consistent performance through my Shadow 2. Highly recommend.

  38. John Olyarnik (verified owner)

Was originally concerned with the “positive reviews” could they be honest or just spam. Well after ordering 500 of the RMR nuke 124 gr, I am a believer
tthey load well and shoot as well as can be expected! I am getting ready to place another order jut so I have extras bullets on hand for future needs!

  39. Hoosier Carry (verified owner)

I wanted to try out these bullets for use in my MP-5 Clone. The MP-5 really isn’t built to shoot hollow-points so there may be occasional feeding issues. Like many blowback 9mm weapons, there are no feed ramps. So it usually takes a few hundred rounds to wear down the feeding port before it will begin to feed reliably. I used mostly Hornady XTPs which have a narrowed forgiving profile that I had no problems with at all. But with the XTPs being over twice as expensive than RMR’s NUKEs, I had to try them. I must say after a few initial loadings, I was at 100% reliability! I also polish all my 9mm feeding ports so I’m sure that helped as well. So I’m definitely a fan as well as a new customer here at RMR. I also purchased 20lbs of lead cores at a very reasonable price! Thank You RMR for having one of the best (if not the best pricing on all of your products!

  40. David

I have been purchasing bullets from RMR for years. I have never been disappointed. The 124 Nukes live up to my and my friends, who have also purchased them, expectations. In front of 4.4 gr of Bullseye they run through my Glocks, CanikSFX and Ruger PC9 carbine. The quality, pricing, delivery and service of Rocky Mtn Reloading cannot be beat!

  41. Jim E Thomas (verified owner)

I purchased 1K of the 124 Nuke BLEMs a couple of weeks ago and just got the opportunity to scale them out. I figured out 3 weight groups, 123.5 to 123.9, 124.0 to 124.5, 124.6 to 125.0. The vast majority of the bullets fell into the 124.0 to 124.5 group, with a small amount falling into the other two weight groups. There were less than 10 bullets that were lighter or heavier than the 3 weight groups that I weighed out. For the price of these JHP’s why would anyone want to use plated bullets? I am sure these will load out some awesome Home Defense rounds as well as some to go out and plink or even shoot in some competitions. Shipping was prompt, and packaged so even the USPS could not tear them up! Thanks again for a super great deal on some wonderful Jacketed bullets RMR!!
P.S. Since I really like a good deal on bullets I got 1k of the 124 gr. FMJ BLEMs also! Have not got to them for weighing yet, but I am sure they will be just as close to weight as the JHP’s. God Bless all the good people who work at RMR!!
