ParticipantI’ve read elsewhere that RMR wants to develop a 45ACP nuke bullet.
Is this true?
Is this merely on the wish list or are you actually working on that product?
Do you have any idea when it might be ready for the market, even if just for evaluation by users?
There is another bullet maker out there who markets a plated, hollow-point bullet in 45ACP. The thing is, it has to be traveling at 1,000 fps or more to mushroom. As you know, that is a challenge for the 45ACP cartridge, requiring very high internal pressures (at or above the maximum allowed by the SAAMI specifications). At more nominal pressures and velocity, it fails to mushroom, altogether. This situation means to me that it is not suitable in a self defense round.
If your bullet could be made to properly mushroom at about approximately 800 fps, that would be a significant improvement in performance over that other maker’s product.
The good performing bullets (the competition) are Speer’s Gold Dot and Federal’s HST. The Gold Dot can be purchased for reloading, the HST cannot.
If you had a 45ACP Nuke and could sell it at a price point typical of your other products, you might have a great, sought-after product on your hands. If you could sell them at approximately 25 cents a piece (price given just for the purposes of discussion), you’d be well under the price of Gold Dots (approximate price of 35 to 40 cents each).
I’m sure you guys know all that but I thought I’d give the thinking behind my questions.
